Police Won't Kick Out WI Protesters

Backing down from earlier threats, Wisconsin police said on Sunday that they wouldn't evict the hundreds of protesters still camped out in the state capitol building in Madison. The activists, who are raging against a bill proposed by Republican Gov. Scott Walker that would strip unions of their bargaining rights, were told earlier this week to vacate by Sunday afternoon, under the threat of arrest. Meanwhile, Walker refuses to back down, saying the legislation is necessary to balance the state’s budget. The proposal passed Wisconsin’s lower chamber, but Senate Democrats have fled the state and refuse to debate the bill.
