The New York Times opinion pages are about to get a little poorer. Frank Rich, the erstwhile theater critic who became a liberal hero for his lengthy demolitions of Republicans in the Sunday newspaper, is leaving the Gray Lady to join New York magazine, where he’ll write on culture and politics. He’ll write monthly and edit a section centered around each month’s essay, and also comment on news for the magazine’s website. When Rich starts his new job in June, it will be the end of an era at the Times, where Rich has been a staffer since 1980.
