Has Sirhan Sirhan, Robert Kennedy’s killer, paid his debt to society? The convicted assassin will be arguing Wednesday to be released on parole from a California prison—and the TV journalist injured in the shooting will argue in his favor. William Weisel, who was shot along with RFK in 1968, said he was advised by two “reputable” psychologists that Sirhan would not pose a threat to society if released. This is the first time in nine years Sirhan is up for parole, and this will be the first time one of the survivors of the shooting will speak in Sirhan’s favor. L.A. County District Attorney David Dahle called Weisel’s appearance “unusual,” saying most victims do not speak in their victims’ defense. Sirhan was convicted of the 1968 killing of Kennedy and wounding five others. Sirhan’s attorney said “not a day goes by” that his client doesn’t have remorse or “deep regret” for the shooting.
