President Obama is sending in the big guns to hammer out a budget before the March 18th deadline for a government shutdown: Vice President Joe Biden. Obama invited congressional leaders from both parties to meet with Biden and White House Chief of Staff William Daley to work out a budget comprise. Earlier Wednesday, Obama and the Senate approved a stopgap bill to keep the government running two more weeks. House Republicans have proposed sweeping cuts, while Obama and the Democrats have supported more modest cuts in programs. Although many hailed Wednesday’s bill as important in keeping the government running, Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin said passing two-week funding bills are “not the way to govern.”
