At this rate, the GOP will reach their goal of $61 billion in cuts by the end of the year. House Republicans are working on another round of budget cuts to attach to a measure that would keep the federal government running for another three weeks. The cuts are expected to be mostly earmarks, as Republicans put off intensely partisan proposed cuts like the defunding public broadcasting or Planned Parenthood, though Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) says there has been pressure to add more contentious cuts. House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY) said Republicans will continue to cut $2 billion for every week they extend government funding until a longer-term budget is passed.
