Offering two colors and a sleek magnetic case, Apple’s iPad 2 could more than triple the debut sales of last year’s model and sell 1 million units over the weekend, according to analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities. In a letter to investors Friday, White said he “would not be surprised” if sales of the iPad 2 reach 1 million over the weekend—a feat that took the iPad 28 days. White says demand is incredibly high, with shipping on online orders delayed for two to three weeks, and long lines forming at Apple stores across the country. The first customers will get their hands on the iPad 2 on Friday at 5 p.m. local time at 236 Apple retail stores and 10,000 other locations. White projects the iPad 2 to generate $16.92 billion in revenue, with sales of 27.36 million units in fiscal year 2011, making up roughly a third of Apple’s forecast revenue.
