The largest earthquake in Japan's recorded history hit the country's northeastern region Friday, triggering a 13-foot tsunami and causing serious damage along the nation’s coast. Severe floods tore away buildings and washed away cars, boats, and trucks, according to early reports. The earthquake was measured as a 8.8 magnitude, and was felt in Tokyo, where buildings shook and at least one was reported to be on fire. Mobile networks were down shortly after the quake hit, but Japan's Coast Guard has begun to put together a task force. "I'm afraid we'll soon find out about damages, since the quake was so strong," a Coast Guard official said.
