This kind of sends a mixed message, no? Three Seattle-area men hailed as heroes by their mayor and police chief for uncovering a bomb plot have been fired for the very thing that they were praised for. The three men were working under contract for the Spokane Public Facilities on Jan. 17, when they discovered a bomb in the route of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. march. But strangely, the men said that got them “chewed out” by their employer before eventually being fired. “I don’t know what you consider calling 911 wrong after two minutes after we found it,” said one of the men, Mark Steiner. The district CEO Kevin Twohig, who praised the men at first, said they was some concern afterward that the men were “messing around with the bomb.” Steiner denied this, and said if they did anything not according to protocol, it is only because they are not trained to deal with bombs.
