The first tsunami waves from the Japanese earthquake hit Oregon around 7:30 a.m. local time Friday. Residents had been given plenty of time to evacuate before the waves, which are expected to reach heights of seven feet. Earlier in the day, waves battered Hawaii, which also had sufficient time to evacuate citizens from coastal areas. So far, there are no reports of significant damage in either Hawaii or the U.S. Pacific coast.
