Al Jazeera reported Saturday that a cameraman working for the network was killed near the eastern city of Benghazi, where the opposition has been holding forth against Gaddafi forces. Ali Hassan al Jaber was returning to the city from a nearby town where he was reporting on a demonstration when several men opened fire on the car that he and his colleagues were riding in, the network said. Al Jaber was critically wounded and died shortly thereafter in a hospital. Since protesters began clashing with Gaddafi forces last month, the Libyan government has kept journalists on a tight leash. Some in Tripoli were forced to conduct their reporting with an anti-opposition bodyguard standing by, while others were completely cut off from covering protests.
