French investigators have found pieces of the Air France jetliner that mysteriously crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009, killing all 228 people on board. Officials declined to say which parts of the plane were recovered or whether they will illuminate the cause of the crash. The plane took off from Brazil in June 2009, and was headed for Paris when it plunged into the sea, disappearing almost without a trace. A large search that included a French navy submarine failed to find the plane’s flight recorders or other key parts of the wreck, though some shards and a few bodies were found. Messages transmitted from the plane’s computer system suggested systems had trouble controlling the jet’s air speed in its final moments. Analysis of the scant evidence found previously suggested that the plane hit the ocean while essentially intact, and oxygen masks were never deployed.
