Sidney Harman, chairman of the Newsweek Daily Beast Co., died Tuesday night at 92 after a brief battle with leukemia. In a long career, Harman built a stereo empire at Harman Kardon, served as undersecretary of commerce, taught as a university professor, and contributed to a variety of philanthropic causes. In 2010, he bought Newsweek and oversaw its merger with The Daily Beast. "He was a magical man, full of intellectual curiosity and a desire to see Newsweek reflect the pursuit of ideas," said Tina Brown, editor of Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
