Is the slaughter the West feared in Benghazi unfolding in Misrata instead? The attacks on the Libyan city of Misrata that killed war photographers Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros also killed seven Libyan civilians and a Ukrainian doctor. "The number of artillery shells and mortars is truly amazing," said a local professor. "The only break is when they are changing ammunition.” The photographers arrived in Misrata by sea on Wednesday morning, and were struck by either an RPG or a high-explosive mortar blast. All four were alive when they reached the hospital, but Hetherington went into cardiac arrest and Hondros died later from brain injuries. NATO says it cannot do more in Misrata because Gaddafi’s troops’ positions are tucked in among civilian homes. At least 365 people have been killed in Muammar Gaddafi’s long-running siege of the city, and more than 4,000 injured.
