Nintendo announced on Monday that it will begin selling a next-generation version of the Wii in 2012. The device will be previewed later this year at the E3 Expo in June. According to rumors, the new system, believed to be codenamed “Project Cafe,” will be more powerful than both the Xbox360 and Playstation 3; neither Microsoft nor Sony are planning to release their next consoles until 2014. It is also believed that Nintendo is developing an entirely new controller for the new system, although the “Wii mote” will be compatible with it.
