A leopard mauled a first-grade boy at the Sedgwick County Zoo in Wichita, Ks. Friday after he climbed into its enclosure. The boy made his way over four- to five-foot railing and an eight-foot gap to stand next to the metal-mesh fence of the leopard’s habitat. The four-year-old Amur leopard then ran up to the fence, reached through the mesh, and grabbed the boy, as though trying to pull him into the cage. A man and woman then ran to the boy’s rescue and only got the cat to release him after kicking it in the head. The boy is being treated for lacerations to his head and neck.
