Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and his wife, Maria Shriver, are separating after 25 years of marriage, the couple confirmed Monday. Shriver, the daughter of the late Sargent and Eunice Shriver and a niece of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, reportedly moved out of the couple’s Brentwood mansion a few weeks ago as the couple tries to figure out what is the next step in their marriage. The couple’s marriage had faced rocky times before—during the 2003 campaign, Schwarzenegger faced accusations that he groped women, NBC forced Shriver to leave her reporting job when her husband took office, and she has struggled in the past few years with the deaths of both her parents and her uncle. Since Schwarzenegger left office in January, it appeared the couple was living separate lives: He quickly signed on to do three films while she moved forward on her women’s empowerment website.
