This probably isn’t the celebration Newt Gingrich had in mind. The Republican presidential hopeful and his wife Callista were attacked by a glittery confetti-wielding protester at a book-signing in Minneapolis. Two Associated Press reporters saw Nick Espinosa—a political prankster who made headlines for dumping a bag of pennies on a GOP gubernatorial candidate last year—empty a cracker box of confetti on the couple while yelling, “Stop the hate.” Apparently, Espinosa was protesting against a proposed state amendment to ban gay marriage. Earlier Tuesday, Gingrich apologized to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan for calling Ryan’s Medicare plan “right-wing social engineering,” and a “radical change” on Meet the Press.
