NATO planes, led by British RAF aircraft, dropped bombs on Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi’s Tripoli compound Saturday. While the compound is where Gaddafi only sometimes lives, British Defense spokesman Major General John Lormier called the hit a “message” that the embattled leader are no longer “hidden away from the Libyan people behind those walls.” The Tripoli compound has been targeted several times this week, and it was badly damaged in 1986 when former President Ronald Reagan bombed it in retaliation for a Libyan attack on a German nightclub that killed two U.S. servicemen. The hits come only days after British officials announced they would be sending four more Apache helicopters to Libya.
