Phillip Garrido, the man who kidnapped 11-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard from a bus stop and held her in his yard for 18 years, was sentenced to life in prison. His wife, Nancy, 55, was sentenced to 36 years. The pair snatched Dugard from a school-bus stop in view of her horrified stepfather, then drove her to Antioch, a suburb of San Francisco, where they imprisoned her in their yard. Garrido, now 60, impregnated Dugard when she was 13 years old and again when she was 16. Dugard was not present at the hearing, but her mother read a statement from her daughter in which she said, “To Phillip Garrido, I hated every second of every day of 18 years because of you. To you, Nancy, I have nothing to say." Before the sentencing, the judge said the “defendant lacks a soul. What you have done is beyond horrible. May you think long and hard about what you did."
