Ali Abdullah Saleh has long been in precarious political shape, but it’s now becoming clear that his physical state is in peril, too. The longtime Yemeni president left the country Sunday for treatment in Saudi Arabia after being injured in a rocket attack on his compound, but American officials say his injuries are worse that previously reported. The 65-year-old has burns on 40 percent of his body and is also suffering bleeding inside his skull. The U.S. has called for an “immediate transition” in Yemen, which is experiencing paroxysms of violence that have continued since Saleh's departure.
