The last time Tiger Woods missed the U.S. Open, he wasn’t even old enough to have had a sex scandal. The golfer, then fresh out of high school, didn’t play in the 1994 Open, and he won’t play this year, either, citing a lingering leg injury. "I am extremely disappointed that I won't be playing in the U.S. Open, but it's time for me to listen to my doctors and focus on the future," he said in a statement on his website. Woods is struggling to recover from injuries to his knee ligaments, left Achilles heel, and reputation—sustained after he admitted to cheating on his then-wife with multiple women. He’s hoping to eclipse Jack Nicklaus’ record of wins in 18 of the major tournaments, and he’s currently stalled at 14, the last of which was the 2008 Open.
