Leona Helmsley’s dog, Trouble, has died at the age of 12. The dog inherited $12 million when Helmsley passed away in 2007, but a judge later cut the inheritance to $2 million after its caretaker, Carl Lekic, told the court that the dog did not need so much money. Trouble required $8,000 a year for grooming, $1,200 for food—and a full-time security guard, as she received plenty of death threats. However, Trouble died of natural causes in December after becoming“blind and infirm” near the end of her life. According to a spokeswoman, her inheritance will revert to The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust “for charitable purposes.”
