In the face of the crumbling case against Dominique Strauss-Kahn, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has denounced perp walks as “outrageous” and a “circus.” “I’ve always thought perp walks were outrageous,” Bloomberg said. (Nevermind May 17, when he said, If you don't want to do the perp walk, don't do the crime.") He elaborated, "Even if they're guilty, they're not guilty until they're convicted, and yet we vilify them for the benefit of theater, for the circus. You know they did it in Roman times, too." Meanwhile, lawyers for Dominique Strauss-Kahn will meet with Manhattan prosecutors Wednesday to discuss a dismissal or possible plea. The D.A. himself, Cyrus Vance, may attend, although a final decision as to a dismissal or plea is not expected to come out of the meeting. It’s unclear if prosecutors have enough evidence to convince Strauss-Kahn to cop to a misdemeanor or even a felony plea.
