A Syrian resident told Reuters that “death squads” are roaming the streets of the western city of Homs, where fierce fighting has been taking place since Monday night. A Syrian activist also said 13 civilians were killed overnight and Tuesday, and among those killed were three mourners at a funeral. The Homs resident said no one can leave their homes because death squads that follow Syrian troops and armored vehicles have been firing indiscriminately. Troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad have escalated a crackdown in Homs, known as a focal point for protests against the regime.
