“This is the most humble day of my life,” Rupert Murdoch told Parliament on Tuesday, adding, “I was absolutely shocked and appalled and ashamed by the Milly Dowler case.” Sitting beside his son James, Murdoch was slow to answer the MP's questions and often appeared hard of hearing. Asked if he himself was responsible for the phone hackings by News International papers, Murdoch said “no,” laying the blame on “people I trusted.” He also lashed out at his competitors. “They caught us with dirty hands and they built this hysteria around it,” the News Corp. chief said. Murdoch also noted that News Corp. has uncovered no evidence of the hacking of phones of 9/11 attack victims.
