A Cleveland jury recommended the death sentence on Wednesday for serial killer Anthony Sowell, who was convicted July 22 of murdering 11 women and attempting to kill another three women. A judge will make the final decision Thursday morning. Police arrested Sowell, 51, in 2009 after finding decomposed bodies of his victims at his residence. The courtroom was filled with the victims' family members, and they burst into applause when Sowell was led into the courtroom by the sheriff’s deputies. Sowell, whose defense attorneys argued suffered from a host of mental illnesses, nodded when the verdict was reached. He earlier had said, “I don’t know what happened … that’s all I can give.”
