Minnesota Twins star Jim Thome became the eighth player in history to hit 600 home runs on Monday night, in a game against the host Detroit Tigers. In the sixth inning Thome hit a two-run shot, which brought him to 599, and in the seventh he hit a three-run blast. The 40-year-old became the second-fastest hitter to achieve the milestone, hitting No. 600 in at-bat No. 8,137. Babe Ruth is the only hitter to do it faster, after only 6,921 at-bats. The Twins won the game, 9-6.
