Was the West Coast jealous of all the attention the East Coast earthquake received? A 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit the San Fernando Valley Thursday afternoon, and the effects were felt as far away as downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica. The quake’s epicenter was three miles north of Sylmar, near Santa Clarita. The quake hit at 1:47 p.m. and was very shallow—only one-tenth of a mile underground—so shaking was felt for miles. There were a number of small aftershocks afterward.
