The violence in Syria continues, with at least 46 deaths on Friday, according to activists. One member of Syria's security forces was killed, and several ambushes of military forces by activists have been reported, a sign that protesters could be retaliating. Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Hussein al-Harmoush, the security official who appeared on an Internet video three months ago condemning senior officials for intentionally killing civilians and calling on his fellow soldiers to revolt, made another television appearance. But this time it was on Syrian state TV, and al-Harmoush contradicted his earlier claims. Al-Harmoush vanished from a refugee camp in Turkey several weeks ago, and Syrian forces killed his brother. Activists say Al Harmoush was likely tortured and forced to make his televised retraction.
