Statements made under oath by two of Rick Perry’s campaign aides apparently contradict a sworn statement by the Texas governor’s campaign committee—raising questions about whether the two aides gave false or misleading testimony under oath, Reuters reported Wednesday. At the heart of the investigation is a $1 million campaign donation, and whether the Republican Governors Association, chaired at the time by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, tried to hide that the donation came from Bob Perry (no relation), the man who bankrolled the 2004 Swift Boat campaign against John Kerry. The two aides, David Carney and Deirdre Delisi, testified in a lawsuit filed by Perry’s 2006 challenger, Chris Bell, that they had limited or no contact with the RGA about the donation, although Perry’s campaign committee later testified that the two aides met with Romney.
