Federal agents arrested 103 people in northern and central California in a gang sweep of the area, the state’s attorney general announced Friday. The arrests have taken place over the past three days in Alameda, Santa Clara, San Benito, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties, and the majority were gang members with prior arrests. The suspects face charges including auto theft, gun charges, narcotics sales, and burglary. The gang sweep, known as Operation Garlic Press, took place over 16 months in a farming community about 30 miles south of San Jose. This week’s arrests are part of a gang takedown announced this year by the state attorney general, and it follows the arrests of 101 people in a sweep in June.
