Severe weather in southern Florida dusted up into a suspected tornado Tuesday night, wrecking more than 50 homes in several towns, according to National Weather Service officials. Schools in the Florida Keys were canceled Wednesday as the region was pummeled by heavy rain and incessant lightning. Three people went to the hospital with injuries, and some 25 homes were damaged in Plantation. No injuries were reported in the town of Sunrise, but 25 residences were damaged, and six of them were completely destroyed.
