Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos was kidnapped at gunpoint Wednesday from his family’s home in Venezuela. The 24-year-old starter, considered one of the team’s most promising players, had gone back to Venezuela to live with his family and play some games with a team there. According to The Washington Post, four armed men kidnapped him and sped off in a vehicle, which was found abandoned on Thursday. The kidnappers have yet to contact Ramos's family, but Venezuelan authorities said Thursday they believe Ramos is still alive. Venezuelan police said in a statement that high-level kidnapping experts and intelligence experts are working on the case.
