Let’s hope jealousy doesn’t ruin their relationship. Two gay penguins at the Toronto Zoo in Canada are being set up with females for the sake of their endangered species. But the zoo has said that Buddy and Pedro, African penguins who had “pair bonded” before arriving at the zoo, will be reunited in the spring. With fewer than 250,000 penguins left in their species, the zoo said it needs Buddy and Pedro to help produce offspring. The zoo’s bird curator said that if the couple wished to get back together at the end of the mating period, “they will be welcome to do so.” This isn’t the first time gay penguins have made the news: a pair at a zoo in Germany raised a family together after an egg rejected by a female was placed in their care.
