Lana Peters, the only daughter of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin, died last week at an elderly-care home in Wisconsin, U.S. officials told the BBC. Peters, born Svetlana Alliluyeva, defected from the Soviet Union in 1967 and wrote four books, including two bestselling memoirs. After moving to the States, she burned her passport in defiance of communism and her father, whom she called “a moral and spiritual monster.” She accused him, among other things, of exiling her first love to Siberia.
