Yemen's embattled and outgoing president Ali Abdullah Saleh left the country Sunday after delivering a farewell speech, and is headed for the United States, officials said. Saleh is giving up power after 33 years when widespread demonstrations called for his ouster, and on Saturday parliament passed a law providing him with immunity, despite protests against the move. Saleh is stopping in the neighboring country of Oman, then will head to New York to get treatment for injuries he sustained in a bomb attack at his palace in June. Saleh claims he will return to Yemen after his treatment.
