Foxconn Technology, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers and the main supplier for Apple, announced it will sharply raise salaries and cut overtime at its factories in China. The move comes after growing public criticism of working conditions at the factories—where suicide nets have put in place on the building’s sides after a rash of deaths—and employees often have to work at an assembly line six or seven days a week for as long as 14 hours a day and live in company dormitories. Foxconn employs 1.2 million workers. The company announced it will raise salaries as much as 25 percent, from about $285 to $400 a month
