GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney showed up at the Daytona 500 NASCAR race today in Florida, while his rival Rick Santorum didn't make it. But was that wise? Consider that Romney’s welcome consisted of a banner that read “Mitt Romney: Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”—a reference to the headline of a 2008 New York Times editorial he wrote opposing the auto bailout—while Santorum sponsored a car at the race. The banner was paid for by the powerful United Auto Workers union. Santorum, on the other hand, paid for some self-advertisements on No. 26 Tony Raines’ car, a Ford Fusion with the words “Rick 2012” on it.
