Rod Blagojevich headed to prison last week with plenty of advice from fellow arrested pols and public figures. For example, former Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff told him to "keep your sense of humor" and not "play to all the celebrity, play to all the hoopla" but to "keep his head down." And former Chicago city clerk Jim Laski advised him to "check his ego at the door. Drug dealers and gangbangers don't care that you were governor or that you were on Celebrity Apprentice." But no one warned him about one of the hardest parts of serving a prison sentence: lack of access to hair care. The former governor's barber has confirmed that his notoriously thick head of dark brown hair—for which he was known to make a security official always carry a brush—is not natural and will surely turn gray within the first few months of his sentence. Apparently hair dye is not allowed in prison because it can be used to create disguises for escape. But what about inmates who have an image to maintain?
