The Jerry Sandusky sexual-abuse trial is becoming a panoply of ethical failures, a morality play populated by feckless go-alongs and pigskin sycophants, writes columnist Maureen Dowd in The New York Times. From questions about how much Mrs. Sandusky knew and whose screams she might have heard to the Penn State officials who did nothing to stop the former coach’s alleged predatory behavior, it may be time for Americans to take a lesson in doing what’s right, she writes. Dowd asks the question that will remain no matter what the outcome of the trial: “How could so many fine citizens of this college town ignore the obvious and protect a predator instead of protecting children going through the ultimate trauma: getting raped by a local celebrity offering to be their dream father figure?”
