In Greece, the government is already playing musical chairs. Giorgos Vernicos, the impecunious country's deputy minister for merchant marine ministry, announced his resignation on Tuesday. The change in casting comes just a day after finance minister Vassilis Rapanos called it quits, citing illness. Vernicos didn't give a reason for his departure, but he has taken fire from opposition parties over allegations that he has questionable holdings in an offshore company. As the fledgling government recovers its balance, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras announced the appointment of Yannis Stournaras as the next finance minister on Tuesday. “Greece has enormous potential,” he said, “but we must pass through a wall of established ways of thinking.” The P.M. himself is regaining his strength after a weekend eye operation.
