Mitt Romney is playing it noticeably cool when it comes to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on President Obama’s health-care law. The Republican presidential candidate—who has vowed on numerous occasions to repeal Obamacare as one of his first orders of business if elected president—made one statement denouncing the court’s ruling but has pretty much stayed away from the topic since. And then, yesterday, his senior adviser went on MSNBC and actually echoed the Democratic argument, that the legislation’s individual mandate is actually a penalty, not a tax, as the court decided. Romney has made it clear throughout the campaign that the economy is his key, if not sole, talking point. He’s avoided weighing in substantially on such controversial topics as the administration’s handling of Fast and Furious, Obama’s executive order on immigration, and now health care.
