Mitt Romney, in Israel to try to solidify his “pro-Israel” bona fides, has attracted yet more controversy by comparing the GDPs of Israel and the Palestinian territories. “If you can learn anything from the economic history of the world, it's this: culture makes all the difference,” the presumptive GOP nominee said. Saeb Erekat, chief Palestinian negotiator, was not pleased by the comparison. “This man, before he came here, he should have got some education about Israelis, Palestinians, and the region,” he said, before going on to explain that the Israeli occupation is a major driving factor in the GDP gap.
