Despite firmly opposing President Obama’s stimulus program, Rep. Paul Ryan wrote at least five letters to two different federal departments requesting aid for his state in 2010. Ryan was one of the leading voices against Obama’s 2009 recovery plan, calling it “a wasteful spending spree,” but that didn’t stop him from tapping into the $787 billion package. The Wisconsin Republican sent a series of letters to the Department of Energy requesting stimulus funds for state energy-conservation groups, which received a $20 million and a $740,000 grant. But in 2010 Ryan firmly told a Boston radio program that he “did not request any stimulus money.”
