Rudy Giuliani questioned Joe Biden’s ability to take over President Obama’s role if need be. “I don’t think he’s nuts. I’m just saying I wonder if he’s got the kind of balance—probably what I should have said is the balance to be president of the United States,” the former Republican mayor of New York City said on CBS. “This guy is like one gaffe after another, and he’s a joke on late-night television.” Guiliani was referring, of course, to Biden’s recent comment to a predominantly black audience in Virginia last week that Mitt Romney’s economic policies would “put y’all back in chains.” President Obama and his surrogates have defended Biden in the wake of harsh criticism from the right.
