Debate viewers may have noticed that the topic of discussion Monday night shifted several times from the designated theme of foreign policy to more domestic issues, and most of them probably didn't care. That’s because Americans aren’t particularly interested in foreign policy. The debate moments that sparked the highest election-related Google searches were when the candidates were discussing the “auto bailout” and Romney's “budget plan.” Points that pundits and anaylsts went crazy over—like Obama’s “horses and bayonets” quip and his attack on Romney’s reluctance to pursue Osama bin Laden—did not elicit a Google search surge.
