As the investigations into the late, eccentric BBC presenter Jimmy Savile’s alleged sex abuse ramp up in Britain, a rare interview the Jim’ll Fix It star gave in 2006 was uncovered on Friday. Police are “moving into the arrest phase” in the investigation of a cover-up of Savile’s alleged rape and child sex abuse, of which there have been 300 potential victims identified. It makes Savile’s voluntary statement in that 2006 UTV interview—“I don’t do underage sex or any of them things”—all the more alarming. In the interview, Savile also said he “never loved” the children he worked with on Jim’ll Fix It, but he “respected them” and “wasn’t yucky to them.”
