Looks like President Obama’s Wednesday-night date with Senate Republicans was a success. John McCain and Tom Coburn, at least, gave reporters a thumbs-up as they left the Jefferson Hotel’s private dining room, where they dined with fellow GOPers and the president, who picked up the tab—out of his own pocket. Last night’s dinner was the first stop on Obama’s courtship tour of the Republican Party, as he aims to repair a fractured relationship that has thwarted cooperation on such crucial deals as preventing the sequester.
