A report by Syrian opposition on Tuesday claimed that 6,000 people were killed in Syria in March, making it one of the bloodiest months on record in the two-year civil war. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the number could be even higher, given how many deaths have gone unreported in the chaos. An estimated 1,486 of the deaths were rebels and Army defectors, 1,464 were government troops, and 2,080 were civilians, including 298 children and 291 women. Meanwhile, an opposition group said 15 people had been killed in fighting on Tuesday. Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday that the United Nations is considering deploying troops to Syria if President Bashar al-Assad is deposed. While the U.N. has always planned on playing a humanitarian role, this would be the first time it is considering being actively involved.
