A bill banning “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations” was approved by the lower house of Russia’s Parliament on Tuesday, as more than two dozen protesters were attacked by anti-gay activists and detained by police. The Kremlin-backed legislation still needs to pass the Parliament's upper house and be signed into law by President Putin, but it seems likely that both will happen. Protesters holding a “kissing rally” outside of Parliament were stormed by hundreds of Orthodox Christian activists and pro-Kremlin groups. Some protesters who were not detained were beaten by masked men about a mile away.
